McGill is the top Canadian university in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings of the top 200 universities.

McGill was ranked 30th overall, down six spots from 24th place a year ago.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology took the No. 1 spot on the list, followed by Stanford, Harvard and Cambridge universities.

The University of Toronto was ranked 32nd overall, up slightly from 34th spot a year ago.

Université de Montréal came in at No. 126, down from its ranking of 115 a year ago.

The rankings evaluate universities on research, teaching, employability and internationalization. Analysts look at academic reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, employer reputation, research publication citations per faculty, international students and international faculty.

Another international university comparison, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, will be published Sept. 21.
